Research agreement overhead policy
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a nonprofit research and communications organization dedicated to finding and evaluating ways of reducing the losses associated with motor vehicle crashes. The Institute has a broad research agenda that includes vehicle crashworthiness, human factors and roadway issues. Institute staff members conduct much of the research, but the Institute also contracts frequently with private organizations and universities to work on research projects.
It is Institute policy to limit overhead charges under its research agreements to no more than 10% of the contract price. The table below lists examples of recent research projects in which the university or research institution accepted the Institute policy.
